HP Restructures International Corporate Comms Team Amid Departures

Asia Pacific, EMEA, Global, North America

LONDON--HP is restructuring its international corporate communications team, amid the departure of three key senior executives.

A HP spokesman confirmed the development, which follows the exit of international corporate PR director Christina Schneider earlier this year, for a regional comms role at Autodesk.

London-based international corporate PR manager Paul de Lara is also set to depart HP later this month, added spokesman Michael Thacker, "to pursue another opportunity."

In Asia-Pacific, meanwhile, HP comms head Clare Gayner has left the company for a new position at Juniper Networks.

No comment was forthcoming as to whether the outgoing executives will be replaced.

The moves, said Thacker, are part of the company’s global restructuring plan, which was revealed last month. HP is to shed 27,000 employees by the end of 2014, in a bid to streamline its processes and focus on specific growth areas.

“There are other media relations professionals in region that currently support our international function, but yes, we are undergoing a restructuring,” said Thacker.

The development follows HP’s decision to slash its international corporate PR agency roster last year. Instead, it appears that the tech giant is focusing on its core printing and personal systems businesses; cloud, security and information analytics; and, enterprise servers, storage and networking.

HP’s comms function has seen considerable flux in recent months. Global chief communications officer Bill Wohl departed the company last year, replaced by Henry Gomez, a longtime aide of new CEO Meg Whitman. The company also hired Howard Clabo to head global media relations last month.
